It is almost “Back To School” time. How did summer go by so darn fast?
Many parents including myself are busy getting things ready for the first day and also a little bit stressed about what to expect this school year.
I am being realistic and expecting certain plans not to go as I hope. At the same time I am trying to make sure I have open talks with my kids but not making them frantic. Yes my kids will be in person at school. Last year they were hybrid to start the year( two days in person, three days at home). They then went to four days in person and in March it was five days.
I like most parents was hoping this school year would be NORMAL. But we all know we are still in a pandemic and the only thing we can truly expect is change. Some times that may be mutlitple changes in on week or month.
One of the lessons I have learned is to be okay with adjustments and to expect the need to adjust. That does not mean not being upset when changes come that interrupt schedules. It means taking the time to be upset but not staying upset. I am trying to have my kids understand this as well. I am telling them that is perfectly fine and needed to express our frustrations but we can not sit and stew in them.
I hope each of your children have a wonderful school year and when those lumps in the road come along take a moment or two to regroup. Be sure to check-in with yourself and see if a break or reset is needed. A break doesn’t need to be elaborate. Sometimes just a walk or sitting alone with music is the the recharge we need.
