Keep Your Pen Moving

Writing is something I like doing and I know I have lots of room for growth in my writing. I would never say to anyone “I got this writing thing down”. I also would never flat out tell someone “Your writing is terrible.” I mean even if I was a great writer I would not put someone’s writing down in a way that may discourage them from wanting to continue writing.
Constructive criticism is needed and when it comes to my work I have asked for feedback. However, there is a way to give feedback without telling someone they are trash.

I bring this up because recently in one of the online groups I am in a topic came up about the new Medium rules and the 100 follower requirement that will be a thing soon. Someone had a post that said: Medium is not a social media site and the 100 followers situation is problematic. The comments then got wild and one comment said “…just don’t suck at writing.” I had planned to not engage in the post but the “…just don’t suck at writing.” to me was rude and I decided to voice my opinion. (good ole social media). I let it be known that telling someone to not suck is rude. A comment was then directed to me that my writing sucked. Was I pissed off about that comment? Yes. Did it make me not want to write anymore? Heck no. I honestly do not think the two people who were telling folks they suck even read any of my stuff. The two of them were in a mood because some folks had been asking for followers to get to the “magic number” of 100.
