Work Days #4 ~Suggestion Box

--

Does your workplace have a suggestion box?

Do you wish your workplace had a suggestion box?

For those that do have suggestion boxes, how often are you adding your two cents to the box? When it comes to suggestion boxes, I wonder how many employers care about what the worker bees suggest.

Are these boxes just saving face to say, “Hey, we asked you all what you wanted and no one spoke up?”

Depending on the work environment, you may not want to speak up. Will it lead to retaliation? Will they already know who suggested the “no need to reply to emails received if it is 15 minutes or less until your clock-out time comes?” Are suggestion boxes even a thing anymore? How does your employer find out what the worker bees want improved upon?
I used to get company engagement surveys, and I would always respond with what I thought the “right answers” were. I eventually started being honest and always wondered if these anonymous surveys were truly anonymous.

The follow-up meetings to go over the surveys usually meant massive eye rolls. Usually, these were sessions to pacify the worker bees.
A huge thanks to the companies that take the time to listen to employees and make the attempt to implement changes that create a more healthy work environment.

What can employees do to ensure that their suggestions are heard and implemented? Are there any other effective ways to provide feedback to the management?

Have a great work week!
